Finally some Pictures. ^^
I made a short road trip to Santa Cruz today driving along the coast line on highway no.1 with two friends of mine! Was a fun trip. And Santa Cruz was great!

The hot tub was the highlight of the evening... ^^

San Francisco

Hey guys I'm not dead! ^^
I'm really sorry for the lag of updates but I recently moved to San Francisco and I was very busy settling in the last 4 weeks. I've found a nice apartment in San Mateo, went to IKEA and FRY's a couple of times. I had a lot of trouble getting phone line, internet, credit card etc. without having a credit history....but that seems to be normal over here.
Anyways I'm pretty much settled in and I'm having a great time here in the bay area. The weather is awesome! It hasn't been raining since I arrived here five weeks ago. That's incredible for someone coming from Hamburg ^^
Work is awesome and I met a bunch of people I knew for years through the net.
So I just wanted to let you know that I'm enjoying a new chapter in my life here in CA and hopefully I'll be able to update my blog with new artwork soon!

Taronga Zoo

We went to the Taronga Zoo on Saturday. It's an amazing zoo but unfortunately we arrived a little late that we had only 3 hours to walk around and we missed a couple of animals. But the weather was great and we had really close looks at the animals.
Picture time! ^^

And another great view to the beautiful Sydney skyline.

Later that evening we went to a birthday party of a friend of manuel's. We had a great time. Today is Sunday and since we were pretty exhausted from all the trips we've done during the week, we decided to stay at home doing nothing. Mimi cooked super delicious dinner (as usual) and we watched a weird but funny movie called 'The Heartbreak Kid' afterwards. Off to bed...

Garie Beach

Times flies like an arrow...it's friday already and Manuel and I went on a day trip to the Royal National Park. We drove down to the Garie Beach. This was definitely the best beach I've seen since I came here. Have a look at the pictures!

We walked up the hill and had a fantastic view from the top!

Jenolan Caves

After stopping by at Pulpit Rock we continued our tour to the Jenolan Caves. It was an one hour drive and it was very exiting to drive on the very tight winding road down to the caves.

We did a 1.5 hours guided tour through the Lucas Cave. This cave contains the highest and largest chambers of the Jenolan Caves.
The scale of the chambers were incredible.

The most photographed feature of the Lucas Cave seems to be the Broken Column...and I just took a picture to raise the quote... ^^

It was an awesome 2 days trip and we are pretty tired now....

Blackheath

The weather was perfect! Blue sky and we finally rent a car for a week and drove straight to the Blue Mountains. The car is pretty comfortable. It's a hyundai but I had to get used to driving on the left side of the road....everything is mirrored and changing gears with the left hand is quiet difficult. And when I turn...I always turn on the wipers first! ^^;

We parked our car in Blackheath and went for a pretty long and exhausting walk from Govetts Leap Lookout to Evans Lookout and all the way back. Other than in the city it was very cold up in the mountains. Thank god that we took some warm clothes with us. In the night the temperature was even below zero.

The air was fresh and view was overwhelming. Since we wanted to continue our tour to the Jenolan Caves, we decided to stay over night in Blackheath in a motel. And damn it! My room was so cold....I suffered through the night T.T

The next morning we drove to the Pulpit Rock Lookout which was the most spectacular one of the three we have seen.

and here are two of my favorite pictures I took on our way.

from Bondi to Maroubra

We didn't get a car today but tomorrow we certainly will ^^. I went to Bondi Beach with Manuel instead. It was a bit cold and windy but still awesome. We took the bus to Bondi and walked along the coast from beach to beach. Me at Bondi.

Even the wind was strong the waves weren't. But there were still some pacient young surfers.

I really love the color of the water...it always makes me want to jump in right away...so clear and beautiful...

And what would be a post without all those lovely animals I've seen on my way.

People who know Sydney might be able to imagine how far we walked today. From Bondi Beach straight to Maroubra Beach...
There are a couple of other beaches inbetween. That was a pretty long but exiting walk. (my feet hurt.... T.T)
Later this evening my fellow artist Min invited me for dinner. We had some delicious Thai food. I better go to bed now. Need to get up early tomorrow.
more to come!

Manly

Today was Sunday and Manuel, Mimi and I went to Manly a very beautiful part of Sydney. But first I want to show you the view from Manuel's balcony....awesome hugh?

So we went to Manly by ferry and had lunch at the beach.

After lunch we walked through the national park. Beautiful nature and we saw many lizards and pretty scary spiders... I took over a hundred photos today ^^;
Here is a best of.

An awesome view from the national park to the down town skyline!

Tomorrow we'll probably rent a car for a week to explore the areas around Sydney! Can't wait.

Aquarium & Wildlife World

I went to the Darling Harbour to visit the Aquarium and the Wildlife World. I loved it. I really need to go diving in the great barrier reef sometime...
Here are some pics.
Aquarium

Wildlife World

Saturday the weather was fantastic and I went to Maroubra Beach with my buddy Manuel. Many surfers and giant waves...when we entered the water the beach patrol asked us to come out because of dangerous current and high waves. The waves were indeed very high I've actually never seen such waves in life before. Awesome!
As we walked a bit further we found a nice rock pool where we could swim. We spent some time there. I loved it! Sorry no pics... T.T

Sydney Day 2

Since Manuel and Mimi had to work I called my buddy Adam (a fellow concept artist I know through online forums) to catch up with him in the city. It was raining very badly so we went to the art gallery and later to a nice cafe where Oyo (room mate of Adam) joined us. We spent some time there talking and sketching. Later they invited me to their place where we caught up with Manuel and my fellow artist Min. I'm now sitting in an internet cafe cause Manuel doesn't have internet at home x_x I think I'm going to check the aquarium today. More to come...

P.S. Until now I didn't find any free wireless access points...and internet is freakin' expensive in Sydney T.T

First Time Sydney

I have never been so far away from home. I'm now pretty much on the other side of the World. My buddy Manuel offered me his couch for my stay in australia. I'm really grateful for that.
Manuel picked me up early in the morning at SYD airport before he went to work. After resting a bit at his place, his wife Mimi took me straight to downtown. We went to the opera house and took a walk in the botanic gardens right next to it. And WOW...so many birds I've never seen before in wild life....just beautiful!

At a certain point Mimi told me to look up....At first I didn't see anything and suddenly....BAM...a whole bunch of bats hanging in the trees. I was totally freaked out. I mean...just look at that! 0_o;

I'm so looking forward to see more animals and australian nature! Next week Manuel Mimi and I will do some trips to places around Sydney. Can't wait....
I love this city already!

A Sign Of Life

Hello from Sydney! I decided to do some vacation since I haven't done that for the last 2 years. The flight takes about 22 hours from Germany. Since I don't enjoy flying that much I made a 4 day stop in Seoul (South Korea). (about 11hours to Seoul, about 11hours from Seoul to Sydney) Even it was a short stay I had a really great time. I met some really nice people walking around with them all day, doing a day trip to the north korean border, eating nice korean food, going to a korean hip-hop club and of course no lae bang in the night.

I rarely used the time so effectively. Many thanks to Seung-Hee, Animesh and Min. I had a great time!

DS Animanatee is fun!

There are many awesome coders out there programming stuff for the Nintendo DS.
I mentioned the amazing painting tool "Colors" earlier.
I recently stumbled upon an animation software called "Animanatee". It's simple, superfast and very user friendly. It supports even multiple undo and one onionskin layer. Perfect for straight forward animation in the subway. ^^
There is another animation software called "FlickBook" but I didn't like the user interface. It was a bit too complicated but it has more functions though.
Anyways both have even an avi file exporter! How cool is that!? Here is a lil' walkcycle I animated with animanatee. If you own a DS....Animanatee is a must have! ^^v

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays everyone!
My brother came over from Japan a few days ago. He brought me a very neat X'mas present. A radio controled mini helicopter. Totally awesome. He took some pictures while I was trying to control this little thing ^^;

The Strange Behavior Challenge winners were announced last week. Unfortunately my painting 'CU-02 in Love' didn't win a prize but it was an awesome challenge! Congrats to the winners!

uh....

A lot is happening right now...the Deadline for the film I'm working on comes close and the whole team is working overtime. There is so much work left that I don't even know how we gonna make it (°_° ;) but it always works out somehow..right?

Sorry for the lag of updates...I'll be back with more after X'mas ^^. Tomorrow I'll fly over to Ludwigsburg to go to the Premiere of the short film 'Descendants' I've worked on the past year. I'm really excited and maybe I'll find some time to paint on my DS too. ^^
I'll be back on Sunday.

Today I recieved an e-mail that my painting 'CU-02 in Love' was awarded with the CGTalk Choice Award. Now that's cool \(^_^)/. The judging for the Challenge still takes a couple of weeks I guess...

meanwhile a DS doodle...

hmm what else...
I updated my blog links. Just added my fellow artist Heiko Hentschel. Go check out his amazing characters and drawings!

AIR Sphere

Fist of all, I wanna thank you all for your continuous support with all the nice comments. It's always a great pleasure to get feedback on your work and also very encouraging! So thank you, you guys rock! ^^

Maybe you remember that I did two 3D images for CGSphere.com early this year. Ei-Bot and Sphere House.
If you want to post images on CGSphere you must obbey certain rules.
After finishing those two pieces above I had another spherical idea and started sketching it. A spheric shaped shoe.

Modeling it in 3D was pretty time consuming that I couldn't finish it for a long time because I was busy at work.
But last week I laid sick in bed because of a nasty virus infection and I wasn't able to go to work for a couple of days. But laying all day at home doing nothing made me crazy and I started working on the shoe again. There wasn't much left to do anyways. ^^ I'm glad that I managed to finish this piece. Often times I find it hard to get back to your unfinished work after a long break, and the file is rotting somewhere on your Hard Disk...
Fortunately this didn't happen ^^, this is the 'AIR Sphere'.

some detailed renderings...

and a breakdown of all objects I modeled.

And Finally the rendering I postet on cgsphere.com

This was a fun little project and I learned a lot of new modeling techniques. Maybe I'll have another 'spherical' idea soon! ^^v

Sijun Tiles

I recently participated in the sijun tiles game over at sijun forums. The official theme of this Sijun Tiles Game was "what may come..."

My Tile

The Rules of the Game (by Awetopsy):
1) There will be 25 tiles altogether. Each tile will be 320x240 pixels. This way when we sew it all together it will equal out to 1600x1200 wallpaper size which can be resized easily.

2) Tiles must be created based on the theme "What may come..."

3) Please keep the tiles content clean (no nudity/swearing/inappropriate imagery/defamation etc.)

4) Tiles will be sent out in the general order of who signs up in the thread unless specially requested otherwise.

5) After I receive the first tiles back I will send the next four with 15 pixel borders of the previously completed tiles. Your job will then be to blend your tile in with the border you are sent. Please be careful not to change any part of the 15 pixel border you receive as that is part of somebody else's tile.

6) I will host the entire project on my web server for everyone to see. Each tile will be posted in its original state. However I reserve the right to make minor adjustments to any tiles that don't quite line up with the edges of the tiles on its borders. But the main content of your tiles will be unaltered.

7) Each participant will have 48 hours, from the time they receive the tile, to complete it and send it back to me. If more time is needed you must let me know before the time runs out or your tile will be assigned to somebody else.

And now it's done!
The participants were (each row from left to right):

Destinatus :: seth1 :: the_insider :: Critical Pete :: Faeklone
Max :: bobthedinosaur :: Daryl :: Nag :: Tinush
Vahn :: ExonGep :: Samsonreaper :: Andro :: Mitsui (me)
3Nasty :: NeFF :: Hideyoshi :: ironwolf :: med
Nag :: J.edt :: Octavian :: fruity_loops :: Notic

It was a really fun game with many cool ideas. I'm looking forward for the next tiles game.

Queen Mary 2 Day

I went with my buddy Stefan (alias 'Dr.Pepper') to the Queen Mary 2 Day.
The Queen Mary 2(the longest passenger ship of the world) departed from Hamburg harbour to London. I've never seen a ship like this before. (The Titanic was 76m shorter than the QM2). Tenthousands of people came to say goodbye.
We went through the old 'Elbtunnel' to the other side of the Elbe canal to have a better view and it was totally worth it! Check it out!

Ratatouille

I went to a Ratatouille screening in Munich yesterday!
The Movie comes to the theaters in Germany in October but indac in co-operation with Buena Vista made it possible to do this event with a Q&A session with Andrew Schmidt (Animator at PIXAR) after the screening. The short film 'Lifted" was screened before Ratatouille.

I have to say WOW! I think pixar pushed 3D animation to the next level.
I was blown away right from the beginning. The story was great, the character designs were awesome, the environments where beautiful, and the animations were out of the world! The trip to munich was totally worth it!

CG Challenge: "Strange Behavior"

I decided to join the new CG Challenge on CGSociety. The topic is "Strange Behavior". Click here for my challenge thread.

This challenge draws on one of the most popular artistic themes – unusual behaviors and relationships. Whether it’s a giant robot admiring a fluffy teddy or a sheep in wolf's clothing; a cow that thinks it’s a helicopter or a warrior going into battle dressed as a giant pink bunny – they all make you stop and think. They also stimulate discussion – what one person finds funny another thinks is demented. Unusual juxtapositions and humor allow us an unprecedented freedom of expression. They can also bring us closer as we laugh together and at ourselves.

The Challenge ends on October 29th 2007. For more information, check the Challenge Page.

Challenge Sponsors
BOXX Technologies, NVIDIA, Autodesk, Softimage, Pixologic, Luxology, e-on Software, Maxon, REALVIZ, Corel, Stash, Gnomon Workshop, MudBox, Ballistic Publishing.

This is gonna be fun!

Spot The Fake Smile

I stumbled upon this link this morning. It's an interesting test about real and fake smiles. You get to see 20 short clips of people smiling into the camera. Then you have to tell if it's a real or a fake smile. You can watch each clip only once.

If you're animating characters it's always important to think about 'fake' or 'real'. You have to be able to animate both. But what makes the difference between those two smiles...? Go do the test ;)

And don't forget to tell me your score. ^^v
I got 18 out of 20

I heard that it's the warmest winter since 250 years over here in Germany. So I thought it won't snow this year! What a pleasuring surprise.

Little Bird woke me up

This morning I woke up because of a loud noise. At first I couldn't figure out what it is. I thought it might be a giant moth stuck at our window fluttering around but even though it was way too loud. So I went to the window and what did I find...a little bird sitting on our window frame. It was trapped between the window and the shutter. I wonder how it came through the shutter cause there is only a tiny gap beneath...
Anyways, I quickly took some pictures and set it free. Thnx for waking me up little bird ^^

A great little trip ^^

I came back from Hamburg yesterday. I decided to stay one day longer.
When I arrived in Hamburg on friday I immediately got a call from my friend Andrea and she invited me and Ellen (a friend I met at the Filmakademy) to have some barbecue with her friends and some buddys back from highschool. What a warm welcome. ^^
The barbecue was great!

On saturday we (Pawel, Anna, Max, Ellen and I) went to the beach in 'Boltenhagen'.
A great little beach with only few tourists. The water was incredibly warm. Unfortunately after an hour or two it started raining and we had to leave.

fantastic cloud over Boltenhagen...

Anna

On the way home we bought stuff for barbecue.
Ellen could stay at her friends place. It was a huge apartment next to the Elbe (stream). A great place with a huge garden. A perfect place for our barbecue ^^v.

On Sunday my father made a great dinner! Big respect....I need to learn cooking...
Monday I showed Ellen Hamburg downtown. The weather was perfect. Not too hot neither too cold. Later that evening we went with Anna, Max and Pawel to the movies to watch Pirates of the Carribean dead man's chest. The english was kind of difficult to understand but I liked it!

It was a great little trip!

Baggersee

Yesterday I went with my buddies to a lake in Karlsruhe. I was sitting in my car with Felix stuck in a traffic jam when he realized that the licence plate of the car in front of us was "NAM245". NAM is the internet nickname of Felix but the more surprising thing was that 24.5. is his birthday....coincidence?
I quickly took a picture with my cellphone.

After two hours we arrived at the lake. It was a beautiful place and the water was perfect...just the right temperature. We went swimming until 1am.
campfire and had BBQ included ^^v

I just love lightpainting. 5 diffrent people with 5 different light colors.

It was a wonderful day. We came home at 4am...

FootBag WorldCup

I went to Frankfurt with Felix yesterday to watch the footbag worldcup! It was really amazing! Those guys do some crazy tricks. I need to practice more...
The finals are next saturday. Unfortunately I can't be there.

There is even a discipline where they play singles or doubles over the net. Sick stuff....

Women Singles and Doubles freestyle

I really wanted to see the professionals playing, but they'll play later this week.

It's gonna be a great tournament. Too bad I can't be there...
But I know what I'm gonna practice during lunch break ^^v

Message on my windshield

T.T Germany is out....
But man! What a great game. I really enjoyed it and no doubt that Italy was better in the last 30 minutes. It was a great World Cup for Germany. Now let's see who's gonna be world champion.

A little story...
Yesterday morning when I was searching for an parking place I found a really small gap between two cars. I had to spin the steering wheel about 8 times to place my car in the gap. On each site there where about 4inches left.
When I came back to my car at 2am I found this little message on my windshield ^^;
It made me smile ^^

translation (thnx melle):
"If somebody parks in so obscenely tight, maybe they should go back to drivers education. The one parking behind you."

This happens only in Germany ^^v

First time ZBrush

I have to work in ZBrush for certain things in our short film. I knew it's good but I never got to work with it. I'm glad that I'm finally using this application.
I've spend some time with tutorials. This is my first attempt creating a creature using ZBrush.

I'm starting to understand the user interface. It's an awesome tool!
Oh and I almost forgot. Marcs blog is back online again with a lot of great stuff! Check it out! http://droppinglines.blogspot.com/

Germany moves on to the semi finals!!

Yeees that was an incredible soccer match yesterday....It almost gave me a heart attack. When Argentina was leading 1:0 until the 80th minute I thought the Germans wouldn't make it. But then......KLOSE! He's my hero of the Worldcup!
I never thought I would get so emotional about the whole worldcup thing but the athmosphere over here is overwhelming. Whooooo I'm so exited!
I got up very late today and I haven't eaten anything yet. ^^;
Think I'll go out have some lunch watching the France vs Brazil match.

My friend Fiona sent me a Picture of her apartment where she put my painting 'Juji & Ophelia' on the wall. Thnx Fiona ^^v

Damn! what a Match....

Stuttgart after "The" Match

Yesterday I went visiting my buddy Stephan with Felix.

Long Weekend

I had a lot of fun the last couple of days! Friday I went to an Irish pub with some friends to see the first match of the Soccer World Cup 'Germany vs Costa Rica
' I enjoyed the game and it was a good start for Germany with 4:2.
Saturday I've spend the whole day practising Guitar...I think I practised around 7-8 hours....one month has past since I started playing guitar and my fingertips are molting for the 5th time now ^^;
I recorded a bit of my Guitar session where I try to play tears in heaven and stuff. You can listen to it by clicking on the following link.

Goro's Guitar Doodles...

Yesterday (sunday) I went with my buddies to the Europa Park. A great theme park with incredible roller coasters. After 3 rides....I got sick and needed a break ^^;
But soon I got better and could go on riding those wild mashines ^^
The Weather was perfect, around 31 degrees, almost too hot.
Here are some pictures...

Today I went out to look for an apartment with Felix. But the one we found was not the best choice. We will keep on looking for other possibilities. Now we're sitting at work again having a great time.
These are pictures of Felix, Heiko and myself.
Felix is doing "Fur", Heiko is refining the "animatic" and I'm still texturing stuff.

UV Unwrapping and Guitar Madness

Today I spend almost all day long unwrapping UVs...
I hate UV unwrapping....Tomorrow I'll probably spend the whole day texturing the main character. Anyways this is our room. It has a pretty nice ambience.

I'm practicing guitar like hell every day. Yesterday I had a skype webcam session with a friend of mine. He gave me a guitar lesson through skype. It was really fun! And now I'm trying to play "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton...but it's darn hard...maybe it's a bit too advanced for a beginner like me ^^;
Well well I won't give up!

WinAmp vs iTunes

Which software do you use to hear your music?
I was always a big fan of WinAmp. But I recently found out that my winamp doesn't support 5.1 speaker systems and even when I use headphones the Soundquality wasn't so good. I thought that my sound file was broken, or I had turned on the WinAmp Equalizer (which I didn't), but when I played the same file with iTunes the sound was perfect. Anyways, I never used iTunes cause I found it uncomfortable and kind of slow... But in the last few days I tried to understand the workflow of iTunes and it's amazing. The Libary system is very cool. I see a lot of advantages of this program. Now I know why many friends of mine are using iTunes.

The Next Step

Yesterday was my last day at Spans & Partner. I had a great time working over there. I met a lot of great artists.
Now I'm moving on to the next step. I'm planning to move to the south of Germany (Ludwigsburg) in about a week and I will work together with a good friend I met at work Heiko van der Scherm on a short film project.
One of my best friends Felix will come over as well and I'm really exited about it.
We'll have a great time.

The weather over here in Hamburg is terrible right now....always raining and we even had a tornado this week. Incredible, the tornado was in the south of Hamburg. Thank god I live in the north.

Hope to be able to paint some more in the next couple of days. Stay tuned! ^^v

@ Work Vol1

Well yeah...this is a picture of me at work ^^;. Wanted to write a bit about what I'm doing. I'm animating for TV commercials right now. Tough deadlines but my fellow animators are supercool and we have a lot of fun at work.
When I started, I had to switch from Maya to XSI and well, hehe...always confused the keyboard shortcuts. I know there is a Maya navigation included in XSI but I love to use the default navigation of each software. I'm afraid I will set a lot of keys when I switch back to Maya ^^.
Some people will know what I'm talking about.

The snow is gone for now and the weather was fantastic the last two days....a little cold though. This is a picture taken out of the window of our office. I'll stay here until the end of next week. Then I'll move to the south of Germany for a while.

Busy and cold Days....

uf...I'm really tired today.
I'm very busy at work right now. No time to paint...
I animated like crazy the last two and a half days...2 characters 4seconds animation both characters with props and one with cloth simulation...I finished it in time but it was pretty tough.

Anyways...it's really cold in Hamburg right now...and yesterday we had -15 degrees...incredible, it's already march. Thank god I don't have to work outside ^^v
But they said in the news that it would get warmer this weekend.

Interaction between Characters and Objects

When your characters interact with objects, you often need to figure out methods to make the animation process comfortable. During the last years I used several methods.

Scene: "character picks up a bottle from the table"

How I used to do it long time ago (don't do it like that!):
Example 01: "simple parenting and keying the visibility attribute"
The hand moves towards the bottle. When the hand grabs the bottle, you simply duplicate the bottle and parent it to the palmbone of the hand. On exactly the same frame, you set the visibility of the bottle on the table to 0 and set a key. You leave the visibility of the parented bottle at 1 and set another key.
Then go one frame back and do the opposite. Set the visibility of the bottle on the table to 1 and the parented bottle to 0. Now you have a invisible switch of two bottles.

Problems:
-When you adjust the timing of the animation you have to move the visibility keys as well. And when you change the pose of the character sometimes you have to readjust the bottle in the hand.

-When the character has to put the bottle back on the table you'll have to do that duplicating process all over again.

- Some renderers doesn't support the visibility attribute and your objects will be visible the whole time.

Example 02: "Parenting and scaling"
You can do the same thing as in example 01, keying the scale attribute of the object instead of the visibility. That way any renderer will render it correctly. Still not the best solution cause you have to duplicate the objects...

Example 03 "Parent Constrain Object":
A realatively new feature is the parent constrain. You can constrain the target object to the hand and blend the weighting between 0 an 1. If the weight attribute of the parent constrain is set to 0 the object will stay on the table. When you set it to 1, the object will be parented to the hand. This works pretty well and you have to key only one attribute to let the character interact with the object.
I used this option for most of my animations. A big plus is that you don't need to duplicate the objects anymore!

Example 04: "Parent Constraining Hand"
A fellow artist gave me the hint to constrain the hands to the object (not the object to the hand). That is a really good solution especially when your character has to interact with an object with both hands. For example when he is lifting a box. You simply parent constrain the right hand to the box and do the same for the left. Now you only have to animate the box itself. Fingers and hands are still movable.

I think the last two solutions are pretty comfortable when characters interact with objects.

Wisdom Teeth gone forever...

Uh...I had a wisdom tooth surgery today. 3 of them were pulled out at once. But it went way faster when I expected and it didn't hurt at all. About 5 minutes for all 3 of them. I was spitting blood the whole day...uh disgusting. The left side of my face started to hurt a couple of hours ago. I had to take a anti pain pill, but it's not swollen yet. I put ice blocks on both cheeks the whole day. The next days I can only eat soup T.T

Anyways they're out and they won't come back! Yey.
Off to bed...

Typing Madness

Found this little game on the net. It's a typing game. First you can choose a language for the words that will appear on the screen. The words are flying from the right to the left and you have to type them before they reach the left edge. It's starting slow and gets faster and faster.
You should master touch typing first cause the guys in the high score list are really good typers! (especialy in the english words section). It's even hard to get into the score list.... T.T

White Alstertal

Christmas was warmer this year. We had about 8C° but it was getting colder the last two days. It is below 0C° again and it's freezing. I went for a walk through the Alstertal today. It's a trail beside the Alster river, very beautiful cause everything is covered by snow.
I was lucky to see a woodstock which you can see in the picture on the left.
There were also some ducks and swans chilling in the snow.
It was very cold....but fun ^^v

Japanese Class Reunion 2005

Wooow that was so amazing! Just came back from the Class Reunion of the Japanese school . We used to go there every saturday here in Germany. We know each other for more than 20years now! It was so awesome to talk about the stuff we did together back at school. Damn we were some big trouble makers ^^
The most surprising thing was that we met at 3PM and talked until 11:30PM non stop. The time was running so fast...and we laughed so much. I'm pretty sure I'll have sore muscle in my cheeks and belly tomorrow...

Here is a little comparison. The upper picture was taken about 20 years ago when we were in the first grade. The second was taken today.

It was so much fun! I miss you guys already ^^ we have to do that again sometime!

Class Reunion 2005

I graduated highschool in 2000 and yesterday we had a class reunion. We were about 90 graduates and around 30 came to the reunion last night.
It was really fun to see all the familiar faces again and some people I hardly recognized by the first look.
I spend the whole night talking and my food which I ordered got cold ^^;

It was so interesting to hear about the different paths of each one of us. Some were completely unexpected. Definetly the most interesting class reunion we had until now.

Many thnx to the organizer.
It was a great event!

The Orkbabies and the Golden Panda

The Animated Short "The Orkbabies" which I created with 5 other students at the German Film School made the first place at the 8th Sichuan TV Festival in the category "Best Animated Short Film (3D)" and was awarded with the "International Golden Panda".

"The Orkbabies" is a "Lord of the Rings" parody. The basic idea was to create a pilot for a 3d series. The production time was about 5 months. We were six people working on this short. When the short was finished and we watched it for the first time, we were a little disappointed cause we wanted to create a funny entertaining short but it wasn't funny anymore ^^;
Anyways I'm still proud that I could work with very talented people and that we managed to keep the deadline. And I think it's still a good short from the visual point of view. It's just the story that didn't work out as we expected.
So I was really surprised when I got the news about the award.
Many thanks to the jury!

King Kong

So I went to the movies the other day to watch King Kong and I must admit I was amazed by the believability of the Kong character. He was so real that I forgot that he is a computer generated character. By far the most realistic cg character I've ever seen.

The flow of the story was a bit slow at the beginning and some parts where too exaggerated but these are the only things I could criticize. The movments of Kong where so ape like with a lot of emotions. The Animation was fantastic.
I also liked the cast.

I think what Peter Jackson has pulled out of the King Kong story is really amazing and the movie shows us the next step in Visual effects.

Just came back from Kart racing. I used to go there with friends a couple of years ago. Today was the first time after many years ^^;
We where 4 poeople racing together: A friend of mine, me and some guys we didn't know. We had a lot of fun but I forgot how exhausting it is to ride a kart. 10 minutes qualifying and 20mintues race. I made it to the 2nd place but now my arms hurt like hell^^. The circuit is 600 Meters long and has quiet some tricky curves.
This is the map of the circuit.

My max speed was about 46km/h. But I think you could drive like 50km/h if you're good. Anyways, very exhausting but pretty much fun!

A friend told me about this tool. StumbleUpon is a browsing tool for finding Great websites dependent on your personal interests. After you Join you will be asked to select topics which interest to you. Nearly 500 topics are available.
When you install it, you get an extra navigation bar. And then you can simply click on the stumble button and StumbleUpon will take you to a random site. It's almost like watching TV and zapping though channels. You just stumble through different websites instead. Another great feature is that you can rate the sites you visit. You can rate any web page that you find on the internet – whether you "Stumbled Upon it" or found it through another method such as a seach engine. There are two choices for rating websites. 'I like it!' or 'Not-for-me'. Your opinion will be used with the ratings of other members to determine each site's relevance.

I just stumbled through several sites and I have to say it's really cool! I already bookmarked several great pages ^^.

I don't know when they removed it. Everytime I had to send out mails, I used that mailbox...
Fortunately there is another one in almost the same distance. So I walked another 200m to the other mailbox. This one was still there ^^V
